The UN General Assembly will convene the UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants on 19 September to guide the development of a global approach to addressing large movements of persons across borders.

The opening session will be opened by Ban-KI-Mon, UN Secretary-General and Filippo Grandi, High commissioner for refugees and the signing Ceremony of United Nations-International Organization for Migrations Agreement. Will follow a plenary sessions and round tables on the subsequent themes:
– root causes of large movements of refugees;
– drivers of migration, particularly large movements, and highlighting the positive contributions of migrants;
– international action and cooperation on refugees and migrants and issues related to displacement;
– global compact for responsability-sharing for refugees;
– global compact for safe, regular and orderly migration;
– vulnerabilities of refugees and migrants on their journeys from their countries of origin to their countries of arrival.
